The other day I was thinking about my four years at college and how a lot of the things I've learned I've already lost. Learning is an ongoing process. There is so much to know!!! I hate when I'm in a conversation and something gets brought up and I'm like, "what????!!!!". I decided that I wanted to learn something new everyday ...EXCEPT this time something I pick. So everyday I'm going to do my own research on whatever I feel like (ie. the rules of golf, the ambassador of a country, the definition of a word etc.) the sky's the limit.
For whatever reason (I'm not sure) I chose to learn about what to do when you encounter a bear. It's really not as bad as I thought. Knowing me I will not ever get myself In this kind of situation but you just never know...right??!! Who says..."I think I'm going to run into a bear today?" If you ever do encounter a bear...apparently you never want to run even if you've heard it's okay if you're going down hill....they will beat you with their 30mph haul...no running people!! Obviously stay calm and speak softly but speak so they can identify you as human (this is if you are close, if not back up and get out of there asap). If this doesn't work you might have to climb a tree...make sure you can get up about 33 feet as black bears climb, grizzlies not as well but they can get up a tree. If for whatever reason you can't get in a tree...I don't know what to tell you...maybe wear better shoes?? Okay!!! so if you are being attacked you are going to want to fight back, sometimes this will scare them off. Playing dead is your last resort...(daytime) you want to lay in the fetus positon with your hands around your knees tightly or lay on your stomach with your hands on your neck...keep your backpacks on for protection. Pepper spray can work but you have to be within 15 ft. Interesting right?!!
I hope you all enjoyed this as much as I did...courtesy of: ME and /http://www.mountainnature.com/Wildlife/Bears/BearEncounters.htm

Maybe I'm nuts, but polar bears look very friendly to me.
Very interesting...thanks for the info but I hope I never have to use it!
You are so funny! But I must say I am very impressed that you can admit that sometimes we all act like we know about a subject that we don't! Good luck on your learning adventure!
I like this post, because I can identify. Now that I'm out of school, I feel like I really have to make an effort to keep learning! I miss it. Great idea sis:)
