July 21

First stop, John Soane Museum. Sir John Soane's house is a free museum in London. Not typical of the museums we've visited thus far. Our group had to split up because they have a limited number of people in the house at one time. While he was alive, Sir John Soane ordered that his house would remain the same. Nothing has been changed or moved with the exception of needed restorations. Sir John Soane was a fan of classical architecture that he saw in Italy. He purchased many items from Italy at auctions, not on his travels, but locally in London.

The Soane Museum was interesting and I couldn't help but think what an interesting man Sir John must have been! In the home he had a square room that housed his art collection. The walls opened up to more walls covered with original paintings.

The British museum was cool! A little overwhelming but cool! I'm one of those "I like museums but I'm not going to spend ten minutes at each display" kinda people! I like to move through at a semi-fast pace. Well, even at a fast pace I still felt like there was no way I could see everything!

(Rosetta Stone... I guess it's not even the original)

It's too bad I couldn't take pictures inside St. Pauls. This is where Winston Churchill's funeral took place and where Princess Diana was married. Would have liked to see that! We climbed the dome! There is a whispering wall about half way up that you can whisper and it carries your "whispies" along the wall. We sort of got the hang of it!
